CongoFlux – The First Eddy Covariance Flux Tower in the Congo Basin

چکیده

The Congo basin is home to the second-largest tropical forest in world. Therefore, it plays a crucial role regional water cycle, global carbon cycle and continental greenhouse gas balance. Yet very few field-based data on related processes exist. In wake of change, there need for better understanding current future response biome this region. A new long-term effort has been set up measure exchange gasses between humid lowland atmosphere via an eddy-covariance (EC) tower. Eddy-covariance research stations have used decades already natural man-made ecosystems around globe, but Central Africa remained blind spot. so-called “CongoFlux” site installed right heart Basin, at Yangambi center DR Congo. This introductory paper presents elaborated description infrastructure; first its kind Earth.

Assessment of Spatial Representativeness of Eddy Covariance Flux Data from Flux Tower to Regional Grid

Combining flux tower measurements with remote sensing or land surface models is generally regarded as an efficient method to scale up flux data from site to region. However, due to the heterogeneous nature of the vegetated land surface, the changing flux source areas and the mismatching between ground source areas and remote sensing grids, direct use of in-situ flux measurements can lead to maj...

First eddy covariance flux measurements by PTR-TOF.

The recently developed PTR-TOF instrument was evaluated to measure methanol fluxes emitted from grass land using the eddy covariance method. The high time resolution of the PTR-TOF allowed storing full mass spectra up to m/z 315 with a frequency of 10 Hz. Three isobaric ions were found at a nominal mass of m/z 33 due to the high mass resolving power of the PTR-TOF. Only one of the three peaks c...

Uncertainty analysis of eddy covariance CO2 flux measurements for different EC tower distances using an extended two-tower approach

The use of eddy covariance (EC) CO2 flux measurements in data assimilation and other applications requires an estimate of the random uncertainty. In previous studies, the (classical) two-tower approach has yielded robust uncertainty estimates, but care must be taken to meet the often competing requirements of statistical independence (nonoverlapping footprints) and ecosystem homogeneity when ch...

Upscaling Tundra CO2 Exchange from Chamber to Eddy Covariance Tower

Paul C. Stoy* Extrapolating biosphere-atmosphere CO2 flux observations to larger scales in space, part of Mathew Williams† the so-called ‘‘upscaling’’ problem, is a central challenge for surface-atmosphere exchange Jonathan G. Evans‡ research. Upscaling CO2 flux in tundra is complicated by the pronounced spatial variability Ana Prieto-Blanco§ of vegetation cover. We demonstrate that a simple mo...
